MY TOP 4 PIECES
Hurrah it's May and the sunshine has come out here in London, the blossom is popping out on the trees and the sky is blue, which is making us smile.
Ok so this is really hard but someone just asked me to pick 4 of my favourite pieces from the 1st collection… I have poured my heart and soul into every tiny little detail of every single itsy-bitsy garment from the fits to the prints and the embroidery, I feel like every single piece is like one of my children. So here we go here are my favourites….
1. EMBROIDERED VINTAGE PEACOCK DRESS SET
My number one favourite is the Vintage Daisy/Peacock - an embroidered dress made of the most sumptuous super soft double layered cotton voile which will feel soft and light as a feather on your baby’s skin. This first collection is inspired by indian embroideries after spending the last decade deeply exploring craftsmanship and style-telling (my way of describing storytelling through style and design) each time I return from my annual trip to Jaipur, I add another piece to my own carefully cherished and curated wardrobe (my next blog post). I adore the imagery behind the thread work and the gorgeous vintage peacock design on the front with creeping vines winding around the delicate daisy inspired patterns. My pieces are all Indian inspired in their creation finished off with a timeless taste. Requests for Momma sizes are still coming in ...
2. THE BOHO BUTTERFLY JUMPSUIT
What is not to love about jumpsuits! I wanted our little treasures to enjoy wearing them too. With the latest revival in all in one dressing, my ‘Boho Butterfly’ has carefully placed elastic detailing so that it can be treasured for a little longer as our little ones grow. This is made from deliciously soft cotton voile printed with my in-house designed bespoke print. The story is that we poured over each and every butterfly and bug in this print incorporating hints from the other prints in the collection (see if you can spot them). You may not notice but there are 7 colours in this print and it takes a great deal of skill and experience to screen print these by hand. Turquoise embroidery has been added to help the colours jump out at you. At Lala + Zizo more is always best! The chest panel is backed in beautiful soft cotton so there is nothing rubbing against your baby’s soft skin. I have a strong feeling this is going to be a classic shape for us and I’m already sampling it in another print - so watch this space!
3. THE JAIPUR BOOTI HAREM
Love love love slouchy harem pants. We are all about comfort and ease for baby (and Moma) but never sacrificing style. This prints was completely inspired by my trip to the traditional hand block printers in an area of Rajasthan called Bagru. So much art, skill and love goes into each hand-blocked style. Our print is hand screen printed to ensure the colours are safe for baby and we love the crisp modern take on a stunning traditional technique. Soft elasticated waist and cuffs brilliantly easy to wear and are perfect for girls and boys alike.
4. THE OCEAN WAVE SMOCKED DRESS
I grew up in the 70’s, my mum made loads of my clothes and I have copious amounts of shots of my sis and I wearing matching creations conjured up by my Moma. I wanted to create modern versions of these old favourites and I just love the fresh aqua marine colour of this print. The easy smocking stretches softly and comfortably around the body and the pretty stripy ties and bow detail just add to it’s splendour. Knickers, how could I forget the little matching frilly knickers which comes as part of the set!
Which one is your favourite I would love to hear from you.
Have a lovely weekend wherever you are
